The Spring Beach Picnic is Here!

Monday, September 25, 2006

You can feel it in the wind. The fun and warmth is all around.

The mid-semester holidays and spring have arrived.

No more freezing cold mornings or windy afternoons. Yay!
Also ... more girls in miniskirts and single layer t-shirts. *wink wink*

What better way to celebrate a holiday and the arrival of spring than to take a break and have a picnic!

For more information on this event visit the events page.

  • "lol momu... been to to your functions... my impression? a bunch of enge students ganged up to party while giving no significant contributions nor support to the malaysian students in melb uni in in-campus concerns. u guys heard of 'the stellars'? u might as well just be 'the league of wannabe enge students'. really. look at the victoria-wide malaysian community (can't recall its name), vs momu. what exactly have u guys done other than partying? i do party alot but hey that doesn't happen under the name of some msian-rep union. btw, from what i heard about how the commitee was formed via some dodgy oh-i-just-turned-up-now-let's-gang-up-and-vote-for-me, can't blame ya. take this however you see it, but think about it. and the website! just a blogger? biggest joke i've ever seen, of a bunch of malaysians, here in melbourne. but oh well... i wish you all the best momu"

  • "and if yer FREAKIN REPRESENTING MALAYSIANS, what's that bloody perverted miniskirts and single layer t shirts thing? what? "damn nice right"? i am so thoroughly humiliated i'd really be better off if no one knew this damned 'Malaysians of Melbourne University' existed. freakin disgusts me. and sounds like it's just a congregation of bananas."

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:07 am
  • "good morning people...guess its just the time of the month where everything gets red and bloody...

anyway in all seriousness who cares about the name?? malaysi-what?? me represent malaysia...me superior..me EMO!!

been to the functions?? dont like it?? dont go...el problemo el solvo! its your choice and if you are smart enough to be dragged in, too bad for u :)

heard about the committee?? well i guess thats not good enough...i heard that ur somewhat homo...can it be true?? fruitcake.

people here are just to have fun and if you dont wanna be a malaysian...change your citizenship or something...quite easily done IF you are qualified and there goes your association with everyone :)

ps. banana's are hell pricy now...can you afford them? ;)"

  • "and if yer FREAKIN WANNA GIVE SUPPORT TO THE MALAYSIAN STUDENTS IN MELB UNI, do something bout it? what? nothing? figures. me whine me whine me whine. freakin disgusts me. take this however you see it, but think about it. but oh well... i wish you all the best anonymous"

  • "Sheesh, so what if the club haven't really lived up to your expectations? What ARE your expectations? Its only been alive for what, 3 months? or slightly more? What kind of grand scheme do you expect? Not all clubs have to start with dour agendas and grim proclamations or cheesy projects for future generation-ish schemes.

Momu has been informing its members about events that are relevant to them as Malaysians and International students, such as the Raja Muda Perak reception, as well as meeting the minister of higher education from Malaysia.

I had the impression that this club was formed mainly so that Malaysian students have a common banner to flock under when having events or socialising, so that we have a better awareness of our fellow malaysians around the campus. I have to say, in this aspect it has succeeded admiringly. Thanks to MoMU i now know about 15 to 20 more people i am proud to call friends.

BTW, its MASCA. For someone who places such high importance in proper malaysian representation, you should know the name of the organisation that is the umbrella body of all malaysian students clubs in Australia. So can you please take that holier-than-thou attitude, and stick it where the sun doesn't shine? Preferably up your own anal opening. Thanks."

by Blogger ShouFarn, at 1:50 am
  • "now now...2v1 isnt very fair ey mate? so cut that person, he/she some slack...and gosh, the language...tsk tsk.

BTW, sun DOES shine if you point it in the right direction. Thanks."

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:18 am
  • "Not if you shove it far up enough *grins*

2 v 1 isn't fair, but coming up to an entity with unfair expectations will garner you some unfair responces, no?

2 v 1, unfair yes, unreasonable no. Chivalry is overrated."

by Blogger ShouFarn, at 2:37 am
  • "Hello to the 2nd and 3rd anonymous (I'm sorry but no real names were given so I can't address you properly).

As a committee member (and activites director to be exact), I have participated in organizing many of the events. Indeed we have organized many social events but as we are a just established, we thought we would give the members and it's founders (mostly current committee members) a chance to know each other and make friends.

Merdeka night was definitely a different way of celebrating merdeka but we have catered for the non-clubbing crowd by incorporating trivia on Malaysian culture and history. to be continued..."

by Blogger miszmilk, at 2:53 am
  • "cont ... In fact we had alot of other games that night but the crowd wanted to start grooving to the music. Plus they sang Tanggal 31 which made me really surprise.

I'm sorry if the club have gave such an impression on you. But being a fresh organization with 0 bank balance, we can now afford to buy bananas and fry goreng pisang for all our members. And that meaning that we can organize better activities and even subsidising them.

Regarding the dodgy committee, they helped out voluntarily and have gained respect as well as trust from each other. Through that the members are confident who they are voting for.

And the miniskirts and single layer t-shirts. I wrote that post and I'm a girl. I am very aware on what I'm talking about and well, I just didn't expect anyone to be disturbed by it as I'm pretty sure that everyone have joked about ideas worst than that. Sexual imagery have been used widely in today's media industry and I believe that most of us find it normal.

Thank you for your feedback both Anonymous 1 and Anonymous 2.It was very much appreciated."

by Blogger miszmilk, at 3:05 am
  • "Oh one more thing I forgot tp add.

The "damn nice right" is actually pointing out to how nice the club is to escort you to St.Kilda Craft market and not that you have the chance to see girls in miniskirts and single layer t-shirts.

Thinking about it, all girls wear single layer t-shirts in Malaysia don't they?"

by Blogger miszmilk, at 3:11 am
  • "Gosh.. This is gonna be fun.. But before I continue, I must thank Shou Farn for his efforts.. Really. Oh and to the other mr./ms. anonymous..

So I hear mr. anonymous has been to our functions. Thanks for your support man. Really great to have you there.

    What?
"what exactly have u guys done other than partying? i do party alot but hey that doesn't happen under the name of some msian-rep union."

Oh no.. He said we're all for partying.. By the way, I was awoken and asked to read this.. I was all day in the library studying and fell asleep right after dinner. Is all this partying in the library just fantastic or what? Don't really know about the rest of the MoMU comm, but I'm pretty sure I had fun partying in the library.. Hey, I'm going partying again tomorrow at the library.. Anyone care to join me? You could dress up as a librarian :P

And the website? Just a blogger? Oh man.. Wait till all the other malaysian societies see you say that. You'd break their tender little hearts. Just as you did mine. Ah you wish.. Mine's not that tender after all.

Anyway, he wishes us all the best. And we can't turn down something good. So we thank you for your kind wishes and all the best to you too mr. anonymous. *Gah what's with all this anonymity? Now I can't thank him personally using his name T_T"

Sigh.. This is a waste of time.. Gonna go off to sleep now.. Can't believe you actually have the time to hate us.. As for that dodgy oh-i-just-turned-up-now-let's-gang-up-and-vote-for-me post, well most of it is not true. Hey, I guess you know that already since you said that it is dodgy yourself..

Thanks for your support.. Hope to see you at our events more often :P"

by Blogger Purring Tiger, at 3:16 am
  • "T_T Su Ann!! Why are you so quick at replying? Now I'm far below *Sobs*

Now that's someone who can break my tender little heart.. :P"

by Blogger Purring Tiger, at 3:20 am
  • "take this however you see it, but think about it. and the website! just a blogger? biggest joke i've ever seen, of a bunch of malaysians, here in melbourne. but oh well... i wish you all the best momu

Hi. I'm not a member of MoMU, nor do I live in Melbourne or Australia for that matter. I'm posting because I disagree with you, that blogs would a bad medium in which a club of this "caliber" would use to reach their members. What's wrong with using Blogger?

In case you've been living under a rock for the past, oh I don't know, 5 to 10 years, blogs have become extremely powerful tools for content publishing. For one, you have an entire content publishing system, along with comment posting, formatting, multi user limitation and access and archiving tools available at your disposal in just a few minutes of registration. Blogs registered under blogger are automatically provided with a relatively simple, easy-to-remember URL and RSS feeds (for every post, so go crazy with your live bookmarks) for absolutely no cost.

What's that? A site of this caliber must have a proper, expensive, professionally designed site with an extensive graphical interface and Flash objects? I don't know, but these sites (that are visited by thousands, if not millions of people a day) disagree with you: This Week In Tech, Joystiq, Slashdot, Engadget. All it takes is a little customization (in terms of user interface) for a site to look "professional" (The sites above are essentially blogs with a souped up interface), and sure this site would benefit from a professional design treatment, but hey, it's totally optional. The blog gets its job done as it is. Maybe you just have a problem with Blogger?"

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 3:55 am
  • "Oh, and continuing from the post above, ever heard of Drupal? It's an extremely powerful content posting system (Read: blogs). Here's an excerpt from their site:

"Equipped with a powerful blend of features, Drupal can support a variety of websites ranging from personal weblogs to large community-driven websites."

Holy shit! A content management system for personal weblogs being used for large community-driven websites? Heretical!"

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:02 am
  • "wow we have our first official flamer XD let me address his concerns in an orderly fashion:

by "enge students" did u mean engineering? because last i checked our members and even our committee are from a diverse range of faculties.

our IGM was conducted in a democratic fashion... so how was it dodgy? most of the leaders of the world are elected the same way - perhaps next time we'll jsut pick names our of a hat?

as erwin said, go google for malaysian student organisations in other universities around oz, or even the world. blogs enable us to engage and entertain readers more as well as make the workings of this society transparent for all to see.

committee being homo? our sexual preference is none of ur business!

dearest anonymous, just to let u know we inform all members of internship and job oppurtunities back home. also we are going to have an orientation week next yr to assist new msian students here to adapt to life in melb, even having a mentor system of sorts. perhaps thats not enough, maybe we need to cook all ur meals and change ur diapers before we are fully taking care of ur welfare?

if u do really want to make a difference, come chat with anyone of our committee members directly, we do welcome and appreciate feedback. or perhaps co-opt into the committee... unless ur afraid to label urself as a homo banana fruitcake."

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:36 am
  • "mmmm...homo banana fruitcake...sounds yummy...maybe not.

on the other hand, starting by cooking my meals would be nice...diapers i've grown outa them so you are a tad bit late...but yeah, that'll serve my welfare alot better :)"

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:12 am
  • "that i posted my comments on anonymity has certainly enabled some to reply using the same name. but look, here is my one and last reply. i would only like to take back on what i said regarding blogger. apologies, but all else said i reckon remains. dunno how u guys got the impression that i'm homo, but then again, this is all just my view of the past, didn't mean to flame any rage here, and lastly and sincerely, good luck guys. didn't write all these to say u guys suck and should so, instead just hope to see more in the future. and no, i'm proud to be a malaysian. wasn't having any great plans to change my citizenship. if i wasn't proud to be one, i wouldn't even bother writing. cheers."

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:26 pm
  • "Right now, I really don't know what you want. First you say that we were enge students busy partying and now, you say that you wrote all those to say that we do not suck. But then you also say that all else you said remains.. You are seriously one confused guy. View of the past? What past did MoMU ever have? We just started..

Now, if you really want to know further about anything, please come meet us and we shall explain what we have done and are planning for the future of MoMU. If you have any ideas on how to improve, also do let us know and we shall take into consideration of your ideas. But please, to say that we have done nothing but party is just condescending and not true.

Once again I thank you for your support. As to seeing more in the future, do let us know what it is you want to see. By writing the comments you have written will not let us know what you are thinking. So no matter what we have done which does not benefits you, you'll only feel that we are busy 'partying'.

I hope that you understand what we have gone through setting up the club, organising activities and at the same time, finishing up tutorials, attend lectures and also assignments to finish up. We are all students just like you but at the same time we dedicate a significant amount of time doing things for all of you, the members."

by Blogger Purring Tiger, at 6:47 pm
  • "=.=|||
Some people are really damn free."

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:48 pm
  • "single layer t-shirts? is there any other type? :O

    I'm missing out!!! T_T

... I saw 21 replied, and thought "wow! I wonder what's so interesting?!!!"
then I realised it was all flame... so let a non-committee member say something... you know, just cos u're a msian society dun mean you have to do anything more than party. As it is, that's what most clubs do. MoMU's committee really has a ambitious vision... far surpassing relevance of most Melb University clubs and societies... so  to MoMU.

haha, what's wrong with banana's??!! you know how much they're worth?!!! XO"

by Blogger ChilliBike, at 7:58 pm
  • "wow~ luckily Mr/Ms anonymous remained anonymous~
    >.< if not i cannot imagine what will happen to him/her.

anyways, i thought we, as uni students, have always been taught and geared towards providing constructive comments/suggestions instead of vague/unsupported criticisms.

nevertheless, we are all here to try to make this a better club for everyone~!
good job su ann~ looking forward to ur event! ^=====^"

by Blogger Chyn, at 10:08 pm
  • "ever heard of constructive criticism, mr/ms anonymous?

it's not easy being on the exec. it's bad enough they have to spend LOTS of time planning events, they also have to prepare for the events in advance and stay back to clear up. if they have too many 'boring' activities, people complain. if they club too much, people complain. but see, these people who complain don't even bother to do anything about it. they don't try to run for exec the next year.

you clearly have a lot of time on your hands even though you party a lot.

and speaking in another language doesn't make you cool.

    ~subwaypath"

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:30 am
  • "well... at least momu's a self-funded, independent social/welfare based club which is by malaysians and for malaysians... plus... minus the politics part... cheers..."

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 6:30 pm
  • "nothing is without politics mate...maybe in wonderland...then again u have the queen and her army of cards...hmmm"

by Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:54 am
  • "This Spring Picnic is gonna be great fun!!!

We're all looking forward to it =D

The MoMU Beach Picnic Conundrum

A warm fuzzy thank you to everyone who voted in the poll! Here are the results:

12 (33%) of you thought we should have it on the 24th of September (the coming Sunday)
24 (67%) of you thought we should have it on the 1st of October (before uni starts Sunday)

Total votes: 36

Verdict: Beach picnic before uni starts! Hot girls in bikinis and hot guys in Speedos! Good clean fun for everyone! Come lah!

Hellooo MoMUans/ians/lings/(insert other miscellaneous suffix here)
(I don't think we ever resolved the question of what to call our members o.O)

Anyhoots, to be perfectly honest with you guys, we have a teensy bit of a problem. Yes, I know it's hard to believe. Such good-looking committee also got problems. Hence, in our time of need, we turn to you, our members, to show us the light at the end of the tunnel. Enlighten us, oh wise ones.

-kicks self-

Okay okay. It's not as ridiculous at it sounds (it's 4.09 in the morning, can die loh, I'm supposed to be doing assignment lah wtfbbq).

Basically, we're looking into the idea of having a beachside picnic during the upcoming hols. Hopefully at St. Kilda beach, and on a Sunday so that we can all go to the Arts market and do the whole makan angin/releks at the beach/enjoy the weather thang. We're not going to intervene much in this, merely provide some refreshments and games (put one soccer ball there la, one footie thing la, a volleyball la, play Pepsi Cola or skipping rope la) and maybe assign guides to bring you around the market. It's a really good opportunity for you guys to explore the charms of St. Kilda, and socialize. Who doesn't want to see more friendly faces around uni?

But I stress once again we won't be FORCING you to talk to each other or anything. You can come for an hour, or five hours, leave whenever you like, bring your own food, do your own thang also can. Basically we provide the basics, and it's up to you how you spend your time (although we do hope to see people mingling at least a bit)

(Mingle with us also can. We like you! But you guys just take our membership cards and run away :( You toy with our hearts! *sniff*)

Er, back to this: we dunno which Sunday would be best to hold this thing. So take two seconds and tell us when *you* would like us to organize the picnic so we can cater to the majority instead of just deciding on our own :D
Votelah, I spent so long experimenting with different free poll providers. Waste my time only some of them, give HTML never work. Bloody conmen.

Teh Tarik... in space?

Monday, September 04, 2006

Seriously? LOL

http://www.theage.com.au/news/World/Malaysian-astronaut-to-party-in-space/2006/09/04/1157222069407.html

Also on a more serious note, Steve Irwin a.k.a. Crocodile Hunter died today after he was fatally wounded by a stingray. The world has lost a passionate wildlife activist and a great Australian icon.

It seems people have started to put turtles - type (tu) - in front of their MSN nicknames as a tribute to him. Lets.

    Sorry very excited LOL :P

But it sure is interesting and would definitely attract people's attention ;p"

by Blogger Purring Tiger, at 12:14 am
  • "The last recorded sting ray death in Aus was in 1945.. the chances of getting killed by a sting ray is lower than getting killed in a car crash.. n yet.. steve played and dealt with snakes, crocs and spiders and yet he died in the hands of a mere sting ray... wat irony... Ppl.. wats the moral of this tragedy? Living the safe and correct way doesn't mean u will live till old age.. Life can be more exciting if u take some risk.. Let tht be the legacy of Steve Irwin.. Amen.."

One for all and all for one!

Saturday, September 02, 2006

IGM over d.. Controversy and politics all history now.. Everyone now kawan-kawan d la kay?
OKAAAY...

WOohoo.. MOMU now has a proper committee! It comes with a 30 days money back guarantee... So if you find the committee unsastifactory, please contact us for an immediate refund of your membership fees.(terms and conditions apply) Since we are the best team that can be formed, i guess that will never happen yea.. =P

Nevertheless, i wish that all MOMU members will support our new committee as we shall be working our butts off making this tiny club a success.. Ei? sorry sorry.. our club is successful d.. we shall aim for worldwide recognition.. not just the university level.. Impossible? With Youtube, nothing is impossible man!

Oh well, I googled the meaning for the word "Liaise"..

liaise
sev.i. establish and maintain contact; co-operate. liaison, n. communication, contact and co-operation; illicit sexual relationship; thickening agent for soups and sauces; pronunciation of normally silent final consonant before word beginning with a vowel.

Man.. this confused me big time.. Apalah.. So this means that my job as a liaison officer includes:
1. Communicate, contact and cooperation. That sounds like a telephone operator.. Interesting
2. Ilicit sexual relationship. Wah.. Self explanatory.. Emily will kill me though..
3. In charge of thickening Campbell soup factory's mushroom soup.
4. The last 1 is too complicated so i shall not bother..

Yea... personally, i think the best choice is no.2.. But the rest of the committee thinks that it should be no.1.. Wierd... = /

Anywayz, HAIL MOMU.. The bestest club of all! United we shall be!
